The PartnerPage MCP server connects an AI assistant, such as Claude, Cursor or OpenAI Codex, to your PartnerPage data through the PartnerPage API. You can then ask in plain words, for example "List the public partners in my directory" or "Add the keyword integration to Northwind Consulting". This article is for developers and admins at companies that run a directory.
Who can do this: an Admin creates the API key; anyone can add the server to their own AI assistant · Availability: all organizations with API access turned on in Settings > Developers
What the MCP server can do
The MCP server is a small program, @partnerpage/partnerpage-mcp on npm, that runs on your computer and talks to the PartnerPage API with your API key. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard that AI assistants use to connect to other tools. Through the server, an assistant can:
Directories: list your directories, read their settings, rename them and change a few settings, such as the default sort.
Partners and apps: search, read, create, update and delete them.
Directory lists: manage badges, callouts, certifications, verifications, filters and their options, filter maps and tiers, and assign them to partners.
Profile sections: manage a partner's keywords, locations, media, resources, special offers, testimonials and use cases.
Contact requests: list and read them. The server can't change contact requests.
Matchmaking requests: list and read them, assign an owner, and choose the partners they go to.
Forms: read and replace your contact request form.
Before you start
Node.js 18 or later on the computer that runs the assistant. The setup steps in this article use
npx, which comes with Node.js.An API key: in Settings > Developers, turn on API access and create a key. See Turn on API access and create API keys.
Pick the key type on purpose:
A Read-only key lets the assistant read everything, including contact requests, but change nothing. Any change it tries fails with "This API key is read-only and can't make changes". Start with this key.
A Full access key lets the assistant create, edit and delete. Deleting a partner through the server can't be undone.
Set up the MCP server
Replace <your API key> with your key in the setup for your assistant, then restart the assistant.
Claude Desktop. Add this to claude_desktop_config.json (on a Mac in ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/, on Windows in %APPDATA%\Claude\):
{
"mcpServers": {
"partnerpage": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@partnerpage/partnerpage-mcp"],
"env": { "PARTNERPAGE_API_KEY": "<your API key>" }
}
}
}
Cursor. Add the same mcpServers block to .cursor/mcp.json in your project, or to Cursor's global MCP settings.
Claude Code. Run this in your terminal:
claude mcp add partnerpage -s user -e PARTNERPAGE_API_KEY=<your API key> -- npx -y @partnerpage/partnerpage-mcp
OpenAI Codex. Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.partnerpage]
command = "npx"
args = ["-y", "@partnerpage/partnerpage-mcp"]
env = { PARTNERPAGE_API_KEY = "<your API key>" }
Other MCP assistants. Run npx -y @partnerpage/partnerpage-mcp as a local (stdio) server, with your key in the PARTNERPAGE_API_KEY environment variable.
To check the setup, ask the assistant "List my PartnerPage directories".
Example requests
"Show me the hidden partners in my directory."
"Create a hidden partner called Bluebird Labs with the website bluebirdlabs.example."
"Assign the Premier badge to Northwind Consulting."
"Show me the latest contact requests and which partner each one went to."
"List the matchmaking requests and the partners assigned to each one."
The assistant asks the MCP server for the data and shows you the answer. With a Full access key, review what the assistant plans to change before you approve it.
Keep your key safe
The MCP server has the same access as your API key, including contact details from contact requests. Keep the key out of files you share or commit to a code repository, such as a project's .cursor/mcp.json. If a key leaks, delete it in Settings > Developers and create a new one.
What you can't do
Get long lists: a list returns at most 10 items at a time. Ask for a narrower list, for example partners with a given status or a search term.
Change contact requests: the server can only read contact requests. Accept, decline and reassign them in the dashboard.
Use it from a browser-only assistant: the server runs on your own computer, so it works only with assistants installed there that support local MCP servers.
Common questions
Which AI assistants work with PartnerPage?
Any assistant that supports local MCP servers works with PartnerPage, including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and OpenAI Codex.
Why does the assistant only find 10 partners?
The MCP server reads the first 10 items of each list. Ask about a smaller set, such as "public partners whose name contains North", or use the API for full lists. Endpoints are in the API reference at https://docs.partnerpage.io.
