Lock profile fields so partners can't edit them

Lock profile fields such as the name, logo or badges so partners see "Managed by directory owner" and only your team can change them.

Locked fields let your team control parts of every partner profile, such as the name, logo or badges, while partners keep editing the rest. Partners see a locked field with "Managed by directory owner" and can't change it. PartnerPage support sets up the locks for your directory. This article is for vendors who run a directory.

Who can do this: PartnerPage support sets the locks; your Admins and Managers edit locked fields · Availability: available on request: contact PartnerPage support to turn it on.

How locked fields work

Locked fields follow these rules:

  • A lock covers the whole directory. A locked field is locked on every partner profile in that directory, not on one partner.

  • Partners can see but not change it. In their profile editor, partners see the value with "Managed by directory owner" and a lock next to the field or card. PartnerPage refuses changes to locked fields from partners.

  • Your team can still edit it. Admins and Managers change locked fields on the partner's page in Partners, as usual.

  • Visitors see no difference. Locks change who can edit a field, not what your directory shows.

Fields you can lock

PartnerPage support can lock any of these profile fields and sections:

Lock fields for your directory

Locks aren't set in the dashboard or through the API. To lock fields:

  1. Decide which fields and filters partners shouldn't change.

  2. Contact PartnerPage support with your directory's name and that list.

  3. PartnerPage support turns on locked fields for your directory and sets the list.

The locks apply to every profile in the directory as soon as support saves them. To unlock a field or change the list, contact support again.

Fields partners can never edit

Some partner profile settings are always your team's, with or without locks: Profile settings (Status, Tier, Featured, Internal directory), the External ID, Partner contacts, and the internal directory sections. Partners also can't change a filter whose Allow user assignment option is off in Directory > Filters (the option shows when filter maps are on); they see it greyed out.

Locked fields vs approving changes

Locked fields and the profile approval flow solve different problems. A locked field can't be changed by partners at all. With the approval flow, partners can change any unlocked field, and their changes wait for your team to accept them before they go live. The two can be used together. See Approve partner profile changes.

Common questions

Can I lock a field for just one partner?

No. A lock applies to every partner profile in the directory. To control one partner's edits, use the profile approval flow, or edit that profile yourself.

Can partners still pick badges if Badges is locked?

No. Partners can pick badges, callouts, certifications and verifications from your lists only while those sections are unlocked. Once a section is locked, only your team assigns them.

What should I tell a partner who asks why a field is greyed out?

Tell them the field says "Managed by directory owner" because your team manages it, and ask them to send you the change they want. The partner-side explanation is in Fix login, invitation and locked-field problems.
