Search filters let visitors narrow your directory, for example by language, region or product, and let partners describe what they offer. You create filters and their options in Filters, in your directory's sidebar. This article is for vendors.
Who can do this: Admin role (Managers and Members can view filters) · Availability: all directories
How filters work
A filter has a name, such as "Language", and a list of options, such as "English" and "Spanish". Partners pick the options that describe them in the Filters card of their profile, and your team can pick options on any partner's page. When a visitor picks an option on the directory page, the directory shows the partners that have that option.
When a visitor picks several options:
Options in the same filter widen the results: "English" or "Spanish".
Options in different filters narrow the results: "Spanish" and "Retail".
Profiles with the Searchable status appear only once a visitor searches or uses a filter. See Partner profile statuses: Public, Searchable, Hidden, Inactive.
Create a filter
To create a search filter:
In your directory's sidebar, click Filters.
Click Create filter.
In Filter name, enter the name visitors and partners see, up to 35 characters.
Optionally, in Description, add guidance that helps partners choose. Only your team and partners see the description, not visitors.
Under Filter settings and Option assignment settings, choose where the filter appears and how partners pick options (see "Choose where a filter appears" and "Control how partners pick options").
Click Save.
The filter's page opens with "Added" and the filter's name. Add its options next.
Add filter options
Each search filter needs options before visitors can use it. To add filter options:
In Filters, click the filter.
In the Filter options card, click Add filter option.
Enter the option's Name (up to 150 characters). Optionally add a Thumbnail image: PNG, JPG, SVG, WebP or GIF, under 250 KB.
Save the option, and repeat for each one.
A filter holds up to 250 options. Drag options to change their order, click Edit to rename one, or remove one you no longer need.
Choose where a filter appears
The Filter displays on setting decides where visitors see a filter:
Directory: the filter appears on the directory page so visitors can narrow the list. On the directory, users can select decides whether a visitor can pick Multiple options or a Single option.
Entry profile: the partner's chosen options appear on their profile page, in the sidebar. Tick Show in main content to show the filter in the main column instead, as a list of every option marked "Supported" or "Not supported".
A new filter appears on the directory only. Tick Entry profile if you also want partners' options on their profile pages. If your directory has an internal directory, you can also show a filter in the internal directory or on internal profiles.
Control how partners pick options
The Option assignment settings card decides how partners (and your team) fill in a filter on a profile:
Setting | What it does |
Selection is required | Partners must pick at least one option before they can save their profile. |
Users can assign: Single option | Partners pick one option. |
Users can assign: Multiple options | Partners pick as many options as they like. |
Users can assign: Multiple options with limit | Partners pick up to the number you enter in Partners filter response limit. Partners see a counter such as "2/3 options selected". |
Allow user assignment | Shown when filter maps are on for your directory. Untick it to fill the filter only through filter maps, so nobody picks its options by hand. See Map filter options automatically. |
Reorder or delete a filter
To change the order of search filters on the directory page, drag the rows in Filters. You see "Order changed".
To delete a search filter:
In Filters, click the filter.
Click Delete filter.
Click Delete filter again to confirm.
Deleting a filter can't be undone.
What you can't do
Create more than 15 filters in a directory from the dashboard. Country, Region and City count toward the 15 when your directory has them.
Rename, delete or add options to the Country, Region and City filters. PartnerPage adds these to directories that use structured locations and fills them from each partner's locations. You can still choose where they appear.
Stop partners from changing a filter's options, unless locked fields are on for your directory, or filter maps are on and you untick Allow user assignment. See Lock profile fields so partners can't edit them.
Troubleshooting
My filter doesn't show on partner profiles
New filters appear on the directory page only. Open the filter, tick Entry profile under Filter displays on, and click Save. A profile shows the filter only when the partner has picked at least one of its options.
My filter doesn't show on the directory page
Check that Directory is ticked under Filter displays on and that the filter has options.
Create filter is greyed out
The directory has 15 filters, counting Country, Region and City if it has them. Delete one you no longer use.
